              Sabertooth Cat Family

The Ice Age was a geologically active time with moving glaciers, volcanoes and earthquakes violently changing the world's landscape.  This time in history, following the extinction of the dinosaurs, spanned between 60 million and 3 million years ago. It was one in which mammals emerged as the dominant species on Earth.

This original traveling exhibit depicting Giant Mammals of the Ice Age features a number of well-known prehistoric mammals.  Included, as seen above, a Saber-Tooth Cat (Smilodon) family shown in a tranquil setting as two adults rest and look over two playful young.

Shown in a more traditional fashion, the hunting technique and the awesome power of the Smilodon explodes as it attacks a Megatherium, a giant sloth nearly four times the cat's size.

In addition to the above described creatures, this exhibit contains seven other scenes from this tumultuous time in Earth's past. This exhibit requires approximately 3,500 square feet.
